Mayor Steinberg, Councilmember Vang announce recipients of $1 million in funding to fight hunger

Sacramento, CA (Dec. 08, 2022) - The City of Sacramento this week announced $1 million in new grants for food pantries, hot meal deliveries, and other programs to ensure everyone has access to healthy food. Seventeen organizations received awards ranging from $5,000 to $200,000 from the City’s share of American Rescue Plan covid relief dollars. They were announced Tuesday by Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Councilmember Mai Vang.

Sacramento Makes History as the First City in the Nation to Create Youth Advisory Liaison to the City Council 

On December 6, 2022, the City Council voted 5-3 to approve the creation of a Youth Advisory Liaison to the Sacramento City Council. This historic vote makes the City of Sacramento the first-in-the-nation to have a designated youth voice to inform all City Council decisions. This position will engage young people intentionally and authentically in public policy, planning, and decision-making at the city level. Creating the Youth Advisory Liaison to the City Council demonstrates the City’s commitment to support and meaningfully involve youth voices in its efforts to make Sacramento a city where all its residents thrive.

Sacramento approves a youth advisory liaison for city council

Sacramento leaders on Tuesday approved a new youth advisory liaison position on the city council. The idea is to bring in the perspective of a younger person on how to spend the city budget, to assess the city’s programs, look at how land is used and anything else the council members decide.
