In partnership with Mayor Darrell Steinberg, I have launched a Food Justice Task Force to ensure that our most vulnerable communities recover in an equitable manner from the COVID Pandemic and that our city has sufficient, healthy, and accessible food for all. I’d like to invite you to join this effort.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made one thing clear: that our food system in Sacramento is not working for all. Though we may be America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital, here in our very own backyard many of our families and residents are food insecure. Based on lessons learned during the last year and a half, we have an opportunity to change the trajectory of our food system in a very meaningful way.
Together, we can build a more robust and resilient food economy in the City and for the Greater Sacramento region. From our Black, Latinx, Southeast Asian, and Indigenous farmers to our local restaurants and food justice advocates on the ground, I know we have the collective ability to ensure no one in Sacramento goes hungry and build a resilient food system that reflects the rich diversity of our community.
