Language Equity & Access Policy
In March 2022, Mayor Pro Tem Mai Vang and Vice Mayor Eric Guerra launched the LEAP (Language Equity & Access Policy) workgroup to address language barriers in the city and develop recommendations for a city-wide language equity ordinance.
The Language Access Audit was completed in December 2022, resulting in 16 key recommendations, including hiring a Language Access Coordinator to support city-wide policies and programs.
The City of Sacramento is currently developing a comprehensive language access policy. This project aims to evaluate the City’s current language resources and improve accessibility, services, and outreach to community members with limited English proficiency, ensuring inclusivity for our diverse population.
The City is actively seeking a Language Access Coordinator to enhance language accessibility across its programs and services. With over 100 applications received, the city is working diligently through the selection process and aims to hire its new Language Access Coordinator in 2025. Stay tuned for updates!
